Tax Form 1098-T

UNM is required to file Tax Form 1098-T for each student enrolled and for whom a reportable transaction is made. Along with 90% of all universities and colleges in the U.S., UNM reports amounts billed (Box 2) for qualified educational expenses in the tax (calendar) year.

The Tax Form will be mailed no later than January 31. We are required to mail the Form to the student's Permanent Address. If no Permanent Address exists, then by default it will be mailed to the Mailing Address. It is the student's responsibility to ensure that the address on record is current and accurate.

In addition to it being mailed, the form is available over LoboWeb for currently registered students. It is found under the Tax Notifications section in the Registration & Records menu.

Bursar's Office staff are not tax professionals, therefore cannot offer any tax preparation advice. You should consult the IRS or your professional tax preparer with any questions.

Tax Information for students is available on the IRS website and should be referenced, as should IRS Publication 970.
